Choose your leaf vacuum mulcher
Thanks to the leaf vacuum mulcher, you no longer have to sweep your patio or driveways or rake your lawn to remove dead leaves in the fall.
In just a few minutes, depending on the model you buy, it allows you to gather your leaves in a heap, vacuum up your plant waste, and/or grind it to make compost.
You still have to choose well! There is indeed a whole range of different types. Don't know how to choose yours? Here are all the criteria to take into account to make the best choice!
The different types
You will have the choice between:
- The blower
It is the basic tool. It simply allows you to group your trash into piles that you will then have to pick up.
- The leaf vacuum and blower
To avoid the drudgery of picking up leaves, the additional vacuum function saves you time and effort. Leaves and other detritus are sucked into a bag that you will then have to empty.
- The blower, vacuum mulcher, and grinder
When the number of leaves is large, this type of tool is interesting because it will crush them in addition to grouping them and sucking them up. The grinder function allows, depending on the model, to reduce their volume up to 16 times. You can use it for compost.

Electric, gas, or battery?
This choice is most often made according to the area to be cleaned but also according to the configuration of your land, the power you want, and of course, your budget:
- The electric leaf vacuum
This is the model most chosen by individuals. It is recommended for areas up to 2000 m². It is often lighter and, therefore, more comfortable to use. It's also quieter than a gas leaf vacuum, but you'll depend on an electrical outlet to plug it in.
- The battery-powered leaf vacuum
The battery-powered leaf vacuum is perfect for small plots or picking up small amounts of plant debris. It is easy to handle, silent and light, but it lacks power if the leaves are wet and stuck to the ground, for example. Their autonomy means that you are limited and that they will not be able to work for more than 30 or 40 minutes.
- The gas leaf vacuum
This type of the best leaf vacuum mulcher is especially recommended for large grounds. They are more powerful and offer great freedom of movement, but they are quite noisy and not very ecological since they run on gasoline. For information, a 4-stroke engine is less polluting than a 2-stroke engine.
Which power to choose?
This is a question I am often asked. The power of an electric leaf vacuum is often between 2500 and 3000 watts. Your choice depends on the surface of your land and whether you want to get rid of, for example, wet and stuck leaves because they require power.
For gas tools, it is expressed in cm3, and it is most often between 25 and 50 cm3.
Remember to look at the power in blower mode but also in suction mode! The higher the power, the easier you will peel off the leaves and then suck them up quickly.

Other criteria to take into account
Here are the other criteria to consider before embarking on the purchase of the best leaf vacuum:
- A power variator: this is the best way to adapt the power to your needs!
- It's handling: remember to look at its weight, of course, but also if its handles are ergonomic or if it comes with a shoulder strap for optimal comfort.
- Its ease of use
- His price
- Its sound level
- The capacity of the collection bag
- If its maintenance is simple
By considering these criteria according to your needs, finding your leaf vacuum mulcher will be child's play!
